“Ye are no more strangers”
First - if you haven’t read Javier’s testimony in the spiritual thought section, start there. It is very powerful.
Last Sunday, Elder Alliaud spoke at a conference in Majorca Spain, that we watched on Zoom. He spoke about the scripture in Ephesians 2:19, “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;” We are all part of the family of God.
These wonderful Spaniards exemplify true community. They gather outside in the community nightly to eat and socialize, demonstrating a remarkable unity within their towns and across Catalonia. Their strong sense of pride and their love for communal activities are evident in the many local events that continually bring them together.
This beautiful spirit of gathering and unity offers a compelling parallel to the community found within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints here in Catalonia we gather from a list of origins, countries, cultures, and even languages, As missionaries working with young adults, we are encouraged to gather frequently. (Young Adult Sunday school, Family home evening, Institute, activities, committee meetings, and Sunday firesides) These shared spiritual experiences and joyful interactions strengthen individuals and draw us closer to the Savior, both personally and collectively.
Wednesday at our picnic, we had Sons and Daughters of God from Spain, Morocco, India, South America, and the United States. What united us was our Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel.
President Hinckley said, “What a wonderful thing it is to be part of this growing kingdom of our Savior. There are no political boundaries separating the hearts of the children of God, regardless of where they may live. We are all of one great family. We are sons and daughters of God. We are engaged in the service of His Beloved Son. He is our Redeemer and our Savior, and a testimony of this truth burns within our hearts.” Just as the Spaniards exemplify unity in their community, we, as members of the Church, find our ultimate unity and belonging in the gospel of Jesus Christ, making us truly one.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, “And so we gather … to enlarge our understanding of things divine, to express our love and respect one for another in this great and remarkable brotherhood and sisterhood which all of us know as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ” (From "As We Gather Together," October 1995 General Conference).
