Shopping!
From Farm to Fun: Our Spanish Shopping Adventures!
Operation: Feast for the Fami-LY (of Young Adults)!
Our favorite kind of shopping? Feeding our amazing Young Adults! This is no ordinary grocery run; we're talking about feeding anywhere from a cozy 8 to a bustling 158 hungry souls, depending on the group!
For these epic feasts, we unleash our inner culinary superheroes at Makro. Imagine Costco, but with a Spanish twist, totally designed for the hospitality industry. These massive warehouse stores are stacked high with everything needed for Spain's huge tourism scene. Think giant bags of pasta, mountains of produce, and enough olive oil to fill a small pool!
The best part of the shopping and cooking is the joy of serving and sitting down with these incredible Young Adults. We love creating these meals, serving them, and sharing a table. It's more than just food; it's fellowship, connection, support, a refuge, and where we feel the Spirit of the Lord. They come for institute and the food and stay for “the remarkable brotherhood and sisterhood which all of us know as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." (President HInckley ”As We Gather Together”)
Fresh Market Fun: A Feast for the Senses!
A different kind of shopping adventure awaits here! Let me take you on a little tour of the two ends of that spectrum, starting with the wonderfully chaotic and simply delightful "fresh market."
Behold the sensory explosion that is our local market! Seriously, this isn't just a grocery stop; it's an experience. Imagine getting your pants altered right there at a tailor's stall, Browse through used books, or finding every egg variety imaginable. For meat lovers, there's every cut you could want, plus whole rabbits, already skinned and then gutted right there for you – talk about fresh! Beyond the raw ingredients, you'll find prepared foods, fascinating herbal remedies, and even bright yellow chickens (we're still pondering why!). Our absolute favorite, though? The vibrant Mexican stall with our friend Juanita! It's a true testament to the local culture and a feast for the senses.
Our "Fancy" Finds: Welcome to Ametller!
Now, let's switch gears to our other kind of shopping. Alright, if the fresh market is one end of our shopping spectrum, then the other is our very own slice of "Trader Joe's" heaven! Here, it's called Ametller.
They usually have the absolute best produce around! Plus, there's even a fantastic fresh orange juice machine and a pineapple coring machine, because who has time for that at home? They even have a limited, but delicious, array of prepared foods for those nights you just can't.
