Hermana Pilar Rodriguez

A Missionary Miracle and a Tender Mercy

Pilar Rodriguez—or Pili—what an amazing missionary she is! She was entirely devoted to the Savior and held a special love in her heart for this new "greenie" from the United States.

On my first night in the mission, we were sent to open a new area. That night with the piso (apartment) that the elders had found for us we passed the coldest worst night of 18 months of a mission. I arrived in December, and the cement walls of that apartment were wet with condensation from the cold outside.

Fortunately, Pili was not the type of missionary to just suffer through it! She declared, "That's it, we are not spending another night here." We prayed for help to find a new place.

The next day, as we were out working, Hermana Rodriguez had a clear prompting to go into a bank—not for money, but to ask about housing. She asked the clerk if he knew of anyone renting a room, and sure enough, he directed us to an apartment that turned out to be the best piso in the entire mission! What a huge tender mercy!

The elders, seeing our new beautiful apartment, in all seriousness offered to switch with us their piso was closer to our area. Pili just laughed! We had such a wonderful time working hard together, teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and loving Heavenly Father's children. Pili truly made everything "just as it should be." She is a tender mercy in my life. Thank you Pili!!

Reunited with my “TRAINER”

Pili continues to be a tender mercy in my life.

As we began introducing ourselves to the members in our mission, I met people who had served in my very same mission—some even at the same time, like Hermana Serrano and Elder Rodriguez. Then, I met a man whose wife had also served there.

"Really, who was it?" I asked.

And you guessed it: Pili!

Come to find out, she now lives just an hour away from us here. Woohoo! Seriously, I am so grateful for these constant tender mercies! I got her number, gave her a call, and we immediately scheduled a time to meet.

It was so much fun to reunite with her and get to know her family! She is still the same amazing, loving, and wonderful person I remember. The Lord was merciful with me to have an amazing trainer!
Thank you!
