Come and See, Come and Serve, Come and Stay

Elder Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite”

Gabriel came early and help make dinner for everyone at Tarrassa institute!

Elder D. Todd Christofferson gave a talk entitled, “The Doctrine of Belonging.” He says there are three parts to it:

(1) the role of belonging in gathering the Lord’s covenant people, (2) the importance of service and sacrifice in belonging, and (3) the centrality of Jesus Christ to belonging. It is the second point that has stuck out to me this week.

As we love and support the young adults, we see that those who really feel like they belong are the ones who are serving each other. Elder Christofferson says, “Although we rarely think about it, much of our belonging comes from our service and the sacrifices we make for others and for the Lord. Excessive focus on our personal needs or our own comfort can frustrate that sense of belonging.”

Mosiah teaches us that, “when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” Through service to each other, we draw closer to the Savior and His love. The Spirit encircles us with this love, which gives us a sense of belonging. We can ask ourselves the question when we participate in meetings and activities: did I come to be served or to serve?
