Halloween in Terrassa

The Catalan’s are so good at coming out into the community and enjoying many holidays together. They celebrate so many wonderful times together. Their adorable children came out for La Catanyada (which actually means the Chestnut Festival). It happens to coincide with the US tradition of Halloween, so the two holidays here kind of get mixed together. The traditional dress for the Catalan’s on this day is an apron made out of “their plaid”. (it is pink and brown). They have little pockets that they put warm chestnuts in. But kids are definitly also dressing up in costume of Halloween.

We found street vendors roasting chestnuts on an open fire! It is so romantic! haha love the sound of it. We tried them and they are so fun to see and buy and well for me, so so to eat. The other thing they roast and sell on the streets and vendors are sweet potatoes. Even in the bread stores they have cooked sweet potatoes sitting in the window to sell - cold. It is awesome! I love the tender mercy of getting out in the community. They are wonderful families. Our mission president feels the same and wants them to be taught in their own language, Catalan. The missionaries are asked to learn Catalan when they have learned “enough” Spanish. That is where all of the families are and the future of this area having the gospel. Right now it is the immigrants who are embracing the gospel in their “native tongue”. Which is awesome too.
