Ariany and Theo

"This couple’s journey is filled with so many tender mercies that brought them together. Here are the details of their story (which I hope I’ve captured correctly!):

Theo Stoddard served his mission here in the Barcelona Mission. During his final transfer, he happened to see a photo of Ariany on the mission’s social media page. He was struck by her beautiful testimony—and her beauty—and decided to reach out. However, Ariany initially blocked him on WhatsApp! As a faithful member, she wasn't quite sure about a missionary contacting her in that way.

Later, during his departing interview, Theo told President Heckman that his goal was to be married within six months. The President laughed as he recounted this part of the story, telling Theo he might want to find someone to marry first!

That summer, just as we began visiting La Seu and Andorra, we met Theo. He had moved back to La Seu for the season, found a job, and set out to truly get to know Ariany. While she was a bit suspicious of his return at first, she soon fell in love. After a trip to the States to meet his family, they were married this past November.

We were so graciously invited to the celebration. Since most of Theo’s family are not members of the Church, his grandmother—who is a member—was the only family representative able to join him here. However, Ariany’s family and the local branch lovingly filled that gap, supporting them at the City Council building for the ceremony and later at the Hotel Andria for their wedding feast.

We felt so honored to be part of their day. Ariany is a wonderful leader for the few Young Adults living in La Seu and Andorra. They are currently staying here while her visa is processed, and we know Theo has a bright future ahead of him in his career and education once they move to the U.S."

Three days later, we joined them in Madrid for their temple sealing. It was a wonderful group as President and Sister Heckman also traveled down to show their support. Alongside two of their friends, we were honored to be part of such a small circle of witnesses. I am so thankful for the tender mercy to watch them feel the importance of making a covenant together to begin their marriage. They are a huge example to the other Young Adults.
